This is my paper plate mask version of Mike Villiquette's "Happy Minotaur" paper cut collage, exhibited recently in NYC. Villiquette is included in the current San Antonio Museum of Art "Psychedelic Art" exhibit, curated by David Rubin. I was invited to do a cut paper collage activity for Family Day on June 6th.

This is the Lynn Ford Craftsman award, presented on May 14th, 2010, by the S.A. Conservation Society, for my work in papel picado. this is the first time I can remember, an artist, working in an ephemeral art form, receiving such a reward. However, it is appropriate, that a non-profit, that makes its revenue (and preservation funding) from one of the most successful Fiesta events, would appreciate an art form that screams "CELEBRATION!". I am so honored to have this elegant plaque, designed by the legendary,Lynn Ford, metalsmith, at the Willow Way complex. He will always be an inspiration to me. Viva Lynn, and the S.A. Conservation Society. Thank you for this touching honor.

Visit Tres Rebeccas shop in San Antonio, across from El Mirador, on S. St. Mary's. A day of the dead exhibit of selected paper cuts by Kathleen, is on view now, with an opening on First Friday, Nov. 6th. Here is a preview, with my latest victim, Mike Casey, on bicycle, as the Grand Marshal for the King William Fair Parade. He is riding past the Pioneer Flower Mill, waving to his admirers, wearing his usual straw hat. One of his many chickens accompanies him. The paper cut is 4/5'. Viva Mike!

Cut from Japanese rice paper, this portrait remembers the opening of LUMINARIA, in 2008, in downtown San Antonio, where the Mayor kicked off his version of an annual celebration of local arts in downtown San Antonio. I was there in the audience, making photos and sketches for this portrait. The celebration continues as a very successful annual event. The Mayor just celebrated the expansion of the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the day he left office, due to term limits. We congratulate him and hope he continues to be a force for green and aesthetic progress in San Antonio.

Tribute to Bongo Joe

This is a 3/5' cut paper wall hanging, created for the recent "LUMINARIA" event in San Antonio. It depicts the famous street musician, Bongo Joe (John Coleman) in downtown San Antonio. For years, he performed there with his signature drumming, singing and whistling. The Hemisfair tower and fire works can be seen behind him. His music can be still be accessed on Amazon.

This little calavera bicyclist was one of many who celebrated life and death along South Alamo on Nov. 2nd. This year's was the 12th procession in row, lead and organized by educator/artist, Terry Ibanez, who always dresses in calavera, and inspires with her poetry and wisdom.

This was a fun event at the Olmos Park Bharmacy. Terry teaches tango in San Antonio, and brings in some great teachers for workshops. The Bharmacy is hosting free tango milongas every Tuesday through November from 7-10 PM. Open to all! So come on down.

Hi, friends, here is the final product from my stencil chalk art project on Houston in St. San Antonio. It is an extension of my airport stencil art project earlier this year. Here you see the Hemisfair tower and the "Taj Mahal" at Randolph Air Force Base. It was a fun event. I hope to do it again, and better!

Ricky Armendariz, from UTSA, has curated an exhibit of diverse works, including four paper cuts by Kathleen, on view from Oct. 2 to 26, 2008 at the UTSA Satelite Space in the Blue Star Art Complex in King William, San Antonio. Gallery hours are friday thru sunday, 12-6PM or by appointment. Let me know what you think.
